Ingredients
1cup227 g unsalted butter, softened
½cup100 g granulated sugar
2cups240 g all-purpose flour
½teaspoonvanilla extractoptional
¼teaspoonfine saltoptional, if using unsalted butter

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Beat the softened butter until smooth.
Add the sugar and cream until light and fluffy.
Mix in the vanilla extract, if using.
Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
Roll the dough to about ¼ inch (6 mm) thickness.
Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
Transfer the cookies to the prepared baking sheet.
Chill the shaped cookies for 20–30 minutes.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
